Vacation Reallocation

So, many of us are sitting at home, pining after travel plans that have been a bit curtailed. But at least most of us are fortunate enough to be sitting in a home as beautiful and comforting as our own. That being said, do you have a large travel nest-egg put away, and are you bummed that your travel plans are all on hold? Now that you are stuck at home, are you happy with the spaces that you are living in, or do you wish they were a bit nicer? Well, I have an idea. Why not take a look at doing a small Covid-time refresh of your home?

I’m not proposing that you take all of your hard-earned money and blow it all on your house...on the contrary. My proposal is to take a percentage of your saved funds and reallocate them to your house, where you are spending the majority of your time now, especially with winter creeping up on us. This doesn’t necessarily mean a whole new kitchen or full-blown renovation like we saw a lot of people doing back in March and April. I feel that you can do some smaller things to make your home feel fresh and renewed.

Here are some ideas:

-Bedding

Buy new bedding for your bedroom(s). This small investment can have a huge impact, since the main focal point of most bedrooms is the bed. With it being fall, there are lots of sales on, too, so check out those options.

-Artwork

By changing out some of the larger pieces of artwork, you can change the feel of a room...to dark and moody, bright and light, or funky and cool. Many reasonably-priced large scale canvases can now be found at furniture outlets or on line, and can make a huge difference to how a room looks and feels. Or maybe this is the time to invest in a local artist’s original piece of art.

These pieces are from a site called ClockCanvas.com. They have a tonne of amazing canvas ideas, for reasonable prices.

-Area rugs

Sometimes rugs can get up there in price, but why not make a small investment into making your main living area feel more cozy, where you can snuggle and watch your favourite shows? Since Covid hit, lots of stores have stock that they are wanting to clear out, so there are lots of deals to be found. An area rug in the family/bonus room can have great visual impact, and make the space feel completely different.

No matter where you were going, or how you decide to spend your travel fund, be sure to invest it in the place that you love. Safe travels, and/or decorating.
