Do you have a home office, or have you recently just developed a new space, to use as a home office? Whichever way you answer, here are a few helpful tips on how to use your home office space, and to get the most out of the space and design that you have available to you.
5 Easy Home Office Design Steps:
Have a dedicated space. This doesn’t necessarily have to be a separate room, that is only used as an office space, but it definitely helps if you have one area that is used as your office, and your office only. This can be something as simple as a rolling drawer system, or as elaborate as a full-sized desk. Either way, it’s always a good start to have your own office “space”.
2. Utilize whatever wall space that you have available to you, near your work area. This can be as simple as a bulletin board or calendar, or it can help to incorporate more storage solutions like shelving or hanging storage bins.
3. Have some sort of surface to work from. This can be a desk, a table, or simply a bench along a wall. Whichever you feel fits your space the best, is the perfect place to start, then build from there.
4. Decide what items you need to have ready access to on a regular basis, and which items you use infrequently. The infrequently used items can be put in a separate space, but still accessible, and the regularly used items can find a home by your work area.
5. Think outside the box. Your home office doesn’t have to have a certain look, or feel, that has in the past been dictated by the boss, and or company that you work for. The newest, most relevant feature needs to be “does it work for you”. If you have a space where you can be focused and productive, to the extent that your business or boss dictate, then you have what it takes in a home office.
Many people, in the future with our new-normal, will still choose to work from home if they are given the option. Why not have your home work space a place where you can work, but still feel that it is an enjoyable extension of your home.
